Educational Mindfulness in the Foreign Language Class by Prof. Monica Mulholland.
This session will introduce the participants to the increasingly popular field of Educational Mindfulness. Mindfulness, which is defined as moment-to-moment awareness of one’s experience, has a long tradition among yogis, meditators, and other individuals involved in the art of contemplation. Fortunately, many aspects of this practice are now at the forefront of the workplace, medicine, and education due to the multiple benefits they offer. Mindfulness meditation has been found to have positive effects on learning. It increases focus, cognition, and empathy; it reduces stress and anxiety; and it strengthens creativity and metacognition.
During this session, the participants will immerse themselves in a hands-on, personal experience of mindfulness. They will experience practical ways in which to promote a more effective, inclusive, and compassionate language-learning environment.
